Working outside an office, without supervision, can be challenging. Set a schedule to give your day structure and keep you motivated. Start the day as you would if you worked in an office: Get up early, get dressed, and try to avoid distractions once you sit down to work. This requires setting clear boundaries so your work life doesn't blur into your home life, and vice versa. Set aside a separate space in your home for work, and make sure your loved ones understand that even though you're home, you are off limits during work hours. It may be tempting to work nonstop, but you need to take regular breaks. Give your brain time to recuperate after draining tasks. If a person has a solid financial education, they will not cling so tightly to job security, a steady paycheck, and a pension. If a person knows the tax laws, they will not pay unnecessary taxes. If they understand the banking system, they will not save money. Rather than call their home an asset, they will know that it is a liability. If they understand inflation, they will not try to live below their means. Rather than get out of debt, they will learn how to use debt to gain wealth. And they will not mindlessly turn their money over to  Wall Street bankers, financial planners, and real estate agents in the hope of obtaining a secure retirement. Most importantly, they will question why they are going to school, who their teacher are, and where their education is leading them.

Throughout my professional life, I’ve tried to maintain a basic level of privacy. I come from humble roots, and I don’t seek to draw attention to myself. Apple is already one of the most closely watched companies in the world, and I like keeping the focus on our products and the incredible things our customers achieve with them. At the same time, I believe deeply in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, who said: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ ” I often challenge myself with that question, and I’ve come to realize that my desire for personal privacy has been holding me back from doing something more important. Think of the tough barriers that messaging must get through to stop this outbreak: don’t eat the animals you have always eaten in the past; don’t touch your loved ones if they are ill; don’t follow age-old or religious customs in washing a...

It can be daunting to ask your boss for a new assignment or to try to land a deal with a major client. But you can succeed if you approach the negotiation in the right way. Don't let fear of the competition cloud your judgment. Often, if other candidates are being interviewed or six vendors are vying for the contract, we’re tempted to lower our demands. Don’t decrease your value — think about the skills and expertise you bring to the table that others do not. To conquer your fear, the most important thing is to be well-prepared. Make a list of what you want from the negotiation and why, and then study your counterpart's motivations, obstacles, and goals, so you can brainstorm creative solutions that will work for both of you. Find data to help you make your case, and build trust by listening and asking questions.
